Lawyers for IVC Filter Damage
Failure of Bard IVC Filters Cause Life-Threatening Health Problems Including Cardiac Bleeding, Vessel Perforation and Tissue Damage
In August of 2010, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released information warning of problems with retrievable inferior vena cava (IVC) filters. These small, spider-like devices are inserted into the inferior vena cava to prevent blood clots from reaching the lungs where they block the pulmonary arteries. This prevents the blood from being oxygenated and results in "hypoxia" which leads to respiratory distress as your brain is not getting enough oxygen. This can cause brain damage or death.
Unfortunately, it has been established by studies and data in published reports that IVC filters manufactured by Bard are fracturing (breaking apart) while inside the body resulting in injuries to the vessels and organs. Bard filters are also reported as having a high rate of perforation of the vena cava resulting in perforation of the surrounding tissue, intestines, spine, vertebrae and arteries.
Fracture of these filters has been attributed to fatigue failure while inside the body. The cardiac and respiratory cycles of the body cause stresses on the filter resulting in failure. The fractured portions of the device are then able to migrate through the body causing injury.
A study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine showed a 25 percent fracture rate in the Bard Recovery® Filter and a 12 percent fracture rate in the Bard G2 Filter. More recently, studies have shown that these filters are responsible for the majority of complaints to the FDA concerning adverse events with the filters, that the Recovery filter is projected to have a fracture rate of 40 percent at five years post implant.
If you, or a loved one, have had one of these IVC Filters inserted and are having significant health problems, you may be at risk for or suffering from damage from these devices.
